Environmental Objectives and Strategy
As a major property developer, Brookfield Multiplex constantly seeks ways to improve its environmental performance.
Brookfield Multiplex’s operations are subject to significant environmental regulation and all of our construction operations across all regions in which we operate are accredited to ISO 14001, which relates to environmental best practice.
Brookfield Multiplex Group’s Environmental Policy and the Brookfield Multiplex Environmental Management System cover:

Land
- Re-utilisation of brown field sites
- Minimisation of development impact
- Maintenance of a broad eco-balance
Water
- Minimisation usage, efficient service installations
- Maximisation recovery and re-use of waste water, storm/grey water
- Maintenance of natural ground water levels, clean discharge of excess recovered water
Energy
- Minimisation of usage, efficient appliances and plant, natural ventilation, passive solar design
- Efficiency of generation, potential for co-generation
- Energy efficient plant where mechanical conditioning is unavoidable
Waste
- Minimisation of material use; recover and recycle during construction
- Maximisation of “in service” recycling
- design and construct for ease and efficiency of waste recovery
- Maximisation of recycling of built forms
Design for ease of adaptive re-use
In 2006 the
Construction Division globally diverted 61% of waste from going into
landfill. This represented a total of 146,345 tonnes of waste.
Subcontractors employed on Brookfield Multiplex projects are also required to submit environmental management plans which deliver on Brookfield Multiplex’s environmental objectives.
Environmental performance achievements are sought by identifying, assessing and controlling environmental risks to mitigate the environmental impacts of our operations, as well as educating employees.
